The "dead" of a dead race.

Here is a Squat I acquired as part of my brothers collection.

As you can see he is quite clearly dead... Although he has a funny expression on his face for a corpse.

Ya' callin' me a short arse?

You know, I never got a chance to see a Squat army in action. Games Workshop dropped them from their range ages ago, due to various reasons (which many old/ex Squat players will tell you are bull) and so no one except us veteran players know about them.

This is a shame! They were cool little dudes, and had some kick arse technology. When the Imperium entered the Dark Age of technology, the planets that the Squat race inhabited didn't suffer the regression that their human counterparts did. Although this is my take on it. According to the Codex Imperialis, it is unknown when the Squat worlds became isolated.

I find it interesting to know that the core worlds are the planets closes to our Solar system, so the irradication of the Squat race by the Tyranids is a little laughable. Half the Tyranids are too big to get into the tunnel systems, let alone the fact that the Squats would know their tunnels etc like the backs of their hands. But if the Tyranids were able to get that close to Terra, why didn't they pick up the strong physic resonance of the Emperors mind, which is so strong that it powers the Astronomicon.

Anyway, the Squats actually not only maintained the level of technology from the Golden Age onwards but even improved it. They were tough, and could show it.

Rather than update their models GW, as stated, dropped them into the bin of "nice, but no longer wanted" models along with stuff such as the Space Slann (see ancient ones or similar on Wikipedia), the Jokaero and the Zoats, amongst a few other models (anyone with the Rogue Trader book and the 2nd Edition and Dark Millenium books will know about these).

So, here is my Squat model, bought on Ebay for around £3.50 inc. p&p in late 2007.

There be dragons!

Yes, there be dragons (so one of them looks more like a dragonfly, so what?) I love dragons, as they are big, cool looking and are really nice models to paint - especially when you are good at shading.

These two little beauties are unknown to me, as the bases are painted (and therefore the original details are obscured) so I can't even begin to look for them on the net.

If you know anything about them, please let me know via the post system on the blog!

Well, heres another ancient model, and I would like your help in establishing who he is!

All I know is that he had the name "Slayer" and "GW (C) 1985" on his foot tag.

Again, this is one my brother painted in the 1980's or 1990's as part of his huge Heroquest gaming collection. He collected randomly, so there are all sorts of models in my collection.

The dark Gods honoured

Hi all.

Well, at last I have managed to get my paws on a camera that works well with close up (macro) shots.

MY Nikkon S6 and my fathers Casio Exilim1000 (10 mpix) didn't want to know, even though his has is a much more advanced camera than mine. Thank God that we also have our Fuji S7000 SLR type.

Anyways, as befitting my first upload I have been honoured by the Dark Gods of Chaos, and in particular, Tzeentch.

So, here we go!

This is a very odd model. It shows that GW were a little more experimental back in the 1980's.

This was painted by my older brother, back in the very early 1990's (possibly 1991 or 1992) I inherited it when he decided to give me all his old Heroquest stuff.

A collection of rare and oop models from the Games Workshop range + more.

Hi there all.

Well, I may be right when I say this has been done before, but I would like to share my collection of rare and out of production (oop) Games Workshop and other models with everyone. As I get each model painted to the best of my abilities, I will post them up on my blog space.

I have many models to go through. A few of them are already painted, so once I get pictures of them, I will post them up!

A little about me.

I started collecting Games Workshops models sometime around September 1995 - with issue 189 and 190. I started off with a box of Space Marines and a couple of Tyranid Warriors. It took off from there.

Although it has taken me a long time to improve, and there are many painters out there who make me look like a beginner, my painting skills are fairly good. I have just started an Ork army, and one member of staff at a GW store said it was the best he's seen in a long time.

My only problem is that I just can't batch paint. I have tried and tried, but it is something that totally eludes me, so this makes it very time consuming to get a horde/swarm army like my 16,000 point Tyranid Hive fleet or my 2,800 point Ork Warband done.

I only work part time, but because I look after my father, who is long term ill, I don't really get a lot of time to just sit and paint, whatever he thinks.

Because I am a modeller, and stay indoors all the time to do my hobby (as mentioned, when I can) it means I am still very single, and I have little interest in the outside world in general - although a girlfriend would be nice! As long as she likes cats and GW and doesn't smoke.

Lastly, I am an avid Ebayer, and at the moment I have bid on and won a large amount of Rogue Trader models, which I will be painting up as soon as possible.

So, that is enough about me. I will now start painting models, and I look forward to your comments and suggestions.

small update - 25/02/08

I have been looking through some of the stuff that I was given years ago by my older brother, from his days of playing Heroquest and Advanced Heroquest.

I will be getting these models sorted out, as there are a few pre slotta models here, and I would like you comments on these, especially if you happen to know what they are (as long as you don't start posting links to Stuff of Legends!)

There be Orcs, Trolls, Dragons and gawd only knows what else! Pictures will hopefully be up by the end of the week, or by mid next week.
